Chaplaish Jackfruit is a large deciduous tree about
30-40 m in height with a girth of 3-5 m. Young shoots are dotted with
long stiff hairs. Leaves are large and of variable sizes about 12-30 cm
by 6-16 cm, elliptic-ovate or almost round, entire or minutely toothed,
blunt and leathery. Little hairs are present both on upper and lower
surfaces, stipules large and stem-clasping. Flowering receptacle arise
in leaf-axils, spherical with long flower-cluster-stalk. Fruits are
spherical about 3-4 inches in diameter. They look like mini jackfruits.
The edible fleshy arils cover the seeds. Chaplaish Jackfruit is native
to NE India, China, Bangladesh and Andaman Islands.
